March 31, 2012 – Current Status of Kirei Cake

Yet another status update to stall the masses. Again.

Revan’s gone on hiatus (I think he’s considering quitting, but I hope not).

Thus, I lost my last redrawer and main typesetter in the group.

If it wasn’t clear enough already (I’m repeating myself here), I’m losing my attachment on scanlation.

I’m moving onto the more interesting aspects of Japanese society, so scanlation is a time-hogger.

I’ve mentioned before (I think) that I would prefer just translating only.

It saves my time and energy for what I enjoy more doing.

But with people leaving or going on hiatus, this isn’t happening.

This is essentially a plead for help (regardless of how crappy it sounds), so do consider joining.

You don’t have to know how to do anything. I’ll teach you. Really.

For the time being, I just need one good typesetter and a redrawer.

Of course, other roles are a plus, but those are essential right now.

If you’re interested, send an e-mail to kirei.keeki@gmail.com

Yes, I wrote that with the Japanese IME to prevent spam bots. Might work. I dunno.

Anyways, I’ll do a few pages for Let’s Go Play! now. Don’t expect it for a while though.

If that’s the case, why don’t you just start doing public Translations?

No group attachment, and you can go at your own pace without apologizing to the masses every time you post.

    • Sayori says:

Honestly, I have considered that. I have, really. Freelancing seems like a possible way to go, however, I still need a bit of a commitment, or else I might end up just disappearing and not giving a care.

As I’ve mentioned before, scanlation is something that people do for fun and to fill in time-gaps. If I was to close the group and go freelance, I’d probably just do a few chapters, and then just disappear, seeing the way I’m going at it now. Which is why I’d rather release bloody slow and have people silently flaming at me, since it would keep it going for reasonably longer.

If you answer a few of my questions I’ll consider it.
    1. ETA on learning how to typeset?
    2. How many hours a day/week do you expect us to work on kireicake? Since i’m a Tales of Vesperia/skyrim/halo reach/katawa shoujo/persona 4 (game)(ps2 emulator rocks!) * Brighter than the dawning blue + various others which will become one hell of a list addict.
    3. Can we choose what series we do? Like Let’s go play would bore me to death and Little sister is getting an anime so that one i stopped reading.
    4. Do you need IRC? I never really understood/tried to understand how that worked/works.
    5. Do you need photoshop? Last time i tried to download that using (Anonymous) sources it kept closing claiming that I had an “not legal” version of it. Preposterous…
    6. What does a typesetter do anyway? (Should have made that question #1…)

    • Sayori says:

      1. A day? Maybe two?
      2. Not much. I’m not even here half the time.
      3. Uh, sure? I dunno. Depends on what’s available.
      4. Preferred. mibbit works wonders.
      5. I have Photoshop for you if you need it.
      6. You just slap on text for me.

Maybe will better switch to light novels? More work, but only with translation :-)

      • Sayori says:

I precisely don’t want more work, so light novels are out of the question.

        • .... says:

That’s why the great novels haven’t been translated yet like gakkou no kaidan. IT’s awesome but no translation ( not the ghost stories anime one but a different one with the same name )
I’ll consider applying after next week ( tests coming up) Don’t get your hopes up for a godly typesetter tho since you’ll have to do (multiple?) step by step instructions for me … RIP

          • Sayori says:

Light novels don’t get as many readers as mangas do (many readers just don’t like reading stories with little to no pictures, lazy bums), and they just have more work altogether to translate, so I won’t do it. I don’t have time.

I’ll wait for you. Just pop into IRC and look for me.

            • .... says:

My tests are from 11-4 to 18-4 after that I’ll be sure to pop up.
Don’t you just love visual novels. Especially Katawa shoujo, the h-scenes are a little bit disturbing but you can disable that and the story’s of the heroines are just OHH addicting.
You can download full English from the
katawa-shoujo.com/. Don’t you just love advertising comments >:D!

            • .... says:

I originally never liked the thought of light novels or books for all that matter because i kind of hate my own language. But after reading The melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya 11 volumes after the anime my point of view from light novels changed and gradually I started reading some books in my own language too. Of course they are mandatory from school but in the past I just wouldn’t read them at all.
Melancholic persons that tell the whole person are really enjoyable since you see everything from a different perspective than you’d see them if they gave all the individual text.
